Budget

Table 2: Theoretical Budget for 32nd and Market Skywalk

Category
Projected Cost
Materials
$1,100,000
Labor
$220,000
Total
$1,320,000

  1. Materials

The skywalk at 32rd and Market would be a covered walkway 110 feet long and 20 feet wide. The material cost for an uncovered walkway would be around $250 per square foot, so for a covered walkway, the cost was doubled to $500 per square foot. 2,200 square feet at $500 per square foot is $1,100,000.
  1. Labor

Labor costs can be as high as $2000 per linear foot so we used the highest value to help determine the maximum cost the project could incur. At 110 feet from end to end, the labor costs would be $220,000.

Decision Formula S(.7(P)+.3(V))
The formula used to decide which intersection would be chosen is S(.7(P)+.3(V)) where S is the percentage of the student survey the location recieved, P represents the average number of pedestrians at the intersection, and V is the average number of vehicles at the intersection. The .7 and .3 represent that we put more weight on the number of pedestrians utilizing the intersection because this is a project designed for pedestrians. The highest value is the location which is most likely to be chosen.
